Chromosomal Microarray Analysis for Research

The constitutional chromosomal microarray analysis and the neoplasia chromosomal microarray analysis can both be ordered as part of research studies. Call the Laboratory Director (206-685-1170) for more details.

Turnaround Time: 28 days from receipt of adequate sample

Test Requisition: Research Service Request Form

Constitutional CMA Specimen Types:

  • Peripheral Blood: 3-5 ml in EDTA (lavender top vacutainer). Keep at room temperature.
  • Cord Blood: 1-2 ml in EDTA (lavender top vacutainer). Keep at room temperature.
  • Products of Conception and Fetal Tissue: 30-50mg fresh tissue in sterile transport media or two T-25 flasks 80-100% confluent. If identifiable tissue in products of conception, send chorionic villi. If material is small and unidentifiable, send entire sample.  For stillbirths, send fascia lata, lung, or kidney if possible. Keep refrigerated.
  • Amniotic Fluid: 15-20ml of amniotic fluid OR two T-25 flasks that are 80-100% confluent. Keep at room temperature.
  • Chorionic Villi: Two T-25 flasks that are 80-100% confluent. Keep at room temperature.
  • DNA: 3-10 micrograms of DNA (minimum 1 microgram) at a concentration of 100 nanograms per microliter (or higher) suspended in TE-buffer. Keep at room temperature.
  • Saliva: 0.5mL in Oragene•ONE(ON-500) Collection Kit. Keep at room temperature.

Neoplasia Specimen Types:

  • Leukemic Blood: 1-3 ml in EDTA (lavender top vacutainer). Keep at room temperature.
  • Bone Marrow: 1-3 ml in EDTA (lavender top vacutainer). Keep at room temperature.
  • Fresh Frozen Tumor Tissue: 50-150mg (0.15-2.0 cm3) fresh tissue snap-frozen. Store at -20°C. Ship on minimum of 10 lb of dry ice in insulated container by overnight courier.
  • FFPE Tumor Slides: 10 unstained 5μm FFPE slides containing adequate amounts of tumor with areas of tumor marked. Include a copy of corresponding surgical pathology report. Mail slides in a protected mailing container at 20-25°C and protect from excessive heat.
  • FFPE Tumor Block: Tissue block containing adequate amounts of tumor with areas of tumor marked. Include a copy of corresponding surgical pathology report. Mail at 20-25°C and protect from excessive heat.
  • Solid Tumor Cultures: Two T-25 flasks that are 80-100% confluent. Keep at room temperature.
  • Bone Core: Contact the lab (206-598-4488).
  • Lymph Node: Contact the lab (206-598-4488).
  • DNA: 3-10 micrograms of DNA suspended in TE-buffer.
